Four things to do in a rental.
Velven is designed to be removable. Do these four things first.

Check your lease.
Rules differ between agreements and landlords. If you are unsure, ask your property manager before changing a fixed surface.

Test a hidden spot.
Stick a sample inside a cupboard door for a few days, then warm it and peel it slowly. Old or weak paint can lift with any adhesive, so this test matters most in older rentals.

Keep to smooth and dry.
Flat laminate and melamine fronts suit it best. Leave benchtops, splashbacks, showers and anything that stays wet or hot as they are.

When you move out.
Warm the film with a hair dryer and pull it back slowly at a low angle.
