Home office

Wrap a desk

Wrap the drawer fronts, sides and shelving of a desk, and leave the work surface as it is, because that is where the daily wear goes. Laminate and melamine desks take the film best. Take off handles first and test a sample on the back.

Drawer fronts
One front at a time.
Take the drawers out, remove the handles and wrap each front on a table, keeping the grain running the same way on every drawer.
Sides and front panel
Flat panels, quick to do.
The side panels and the panel facing the room are flat and upright. Plan the grain so they read as one piece with the drawers.
Shelving and hutches
Above and beside the desk.
Hutch doors, shelf faces and upright panels take the same finish, so the whole workspace matches.
Rounded edges
Start at the edge.
Leave a few centimetres of overhang on each edge and smooth the film across the face. Then warm the overhang gently with a hair dryer and press it around onto the back.
