SK2 is a high carbon tool steel used for precision cutting blades. The higher carbon content lets the steel harden well, so the edge grinds sharper and stays crisp through detailed trimming. That means cleaner corners, smoother edge cuts and less pressure on the surface underneath.
Fit a fresh blade before the final trim, especially around handles, corners, joins and visible edges. If it starts to snag or drag, replace it. That small swap is what gives you a clean, finished edge.

Do I need specialist tools?
No. You can start with scissors, a sharp knife and a hairdryer. These tools just make the job cleaner, especially around edges, corners and joins.
What matters most for a clean finish?
Use a sharp blade, press from the centre out, and warm the film gently as it turns an edge. A felt edge applicator helps press the film down without marking the surface.
Can I buy the tools separately?
Yes. The kit is the simplest setup, but the knife, blades and felt edge squeegee can also be bought separately.
