How to Wrap a Flat Door
Ten short steps. Replay any of them, and move on when you are ready.
- Prep the surface. Remove the door and handle, fill any chips, sand smooth, then clean and dry.
- Measure and cut. Measure the face, then cut on the backing grid with at least 7 cm extra on every side.
- Position and tack. Peel a short strip at the top, line the sheet up, and tack the first edge.
- Squeegee the face. Pull the backing away a little at a time while smoothing from the centre out.
- Corners first. Warm each corner, slice a small relief cut at 45 degrees, then fold it over.
- Fold the edges in pairs. Fold one long edge, then its opposite, then both short edges, warming where the film resists.
- Trim on the back. Turn the door over and trim the excess with a fresh blade.
- Post heat and press. Press every edge again, then add gentle heat so the film settles for good.
- Fix bubbles. Push bubbles to the nearest edge. Pierce only if trapped, and never on matte film.
- Refit and rest. Cut the handle opening, refit the hardware, and give the film a day or two to bond.
Always test first on painted, delicate, or rental surfaces.
